For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee. FOR THIS (IS AS) THE WATERS OF NOAH UNTO ME - I am about to do the same in this instance as in Noah's flood. 9._For the waters of Noah, _or, _As the days of Noah. _There are two readings of this passage; for if we read it כי מי _(ki me), _ כי _(ki) _must be translated _for; _and if we read it כימי, _(kime,) _ כ _(caph) _must be translated _As, _and ימי _(yeme) _must be translated _Days. _(70) As to the general meaning, it makes little difference; and therefore we ought chiefly to consider what the Prophet meant, for commentators do not appear to me to have caught his meaning. Verse Isaiah 54:9. _FOR THIS_ IS AS _THE WATERS OF NOAH UNTO ME_ - "The same will I do now, as in the days of Noah"] כימי _kimey_, in one word, in a MS., and some editions; and so the _Syriac, Chaldee, Vulgate,_ _Symmachus, Theodotion, Abarbanel, Sal. ben Melec_, and _Kimchi_ acknowledge that their copies vary in this place. It is certain that these two words _ki mey_, were written formerly as _one_. Taken as two כי מי _ki mey_, they signify _for_ as _the waters_ - when as one, כימי _kimey_, they signify _as the_ _days_. This latter reading is found in about four of _Kennicott's_ and _De Rossi's_ MSS. Some copies, as Kimchi and Ben Melech observe, read these two words, כי מי, as one, thus, כימי, "as the days of Noah"; and this is followed by the Targum, Vulgate Latin, and Syriac versions; both readings may be kept, and joined in one, and the sense be, "for this is as the waters that were in the days of Noah unto me"; so Kimchi and Menachem join them.
