11._Then the devil leaveth him. _Luke expresses more: _when all the temptation had been finished. _This means, that no truce or relaxation was granted to Christ, till he had been fully tried by every species of contest. Verse Matthew 4:11. _BEHOLD, ANGELS CAME AND MINISTERED UNTO HIM._] That is, brought that food which was necessary to support nature. The name given to Satan in the third verse is very emphatic, ο πειραζων, the _tempter_, or _trier_, from πειρω, _to pierce_ _through_. To this import of the name there seems to be an allusion, Ephesians 6:16: _The fiery_ DARTS _of the wicked one_.
