_THIS IS THE GENERATION OF THEM THAT SEEK HIM, THAT SEEK THY FACE, O JACOB. SELAH._ The generation of them that seek - i:e., that seek to be among the true sons of Jacob, a seeker after God, and so a representative head of the Church. As to the "face" of Jacob, whom true Israelites look up to as a spiritual father, cf. Isaiah 29:22. But the parallelism of "seek Him" and "seek thy face, O Jacob," would hardly be theologically correct. For seeking Jacob, a man, though representing Church, cannot stand, on a similar footing with seeking God. Rather, 'This is the generation of them that reverence, Him; they that seek thy face, (O God, are) Jacob' - i:e., wrestling suppliants before Gods "face" (Genesis 32:30; Hosea

Verse Psalms 24:6. _THIS_ IS _THE GENERATION_] This is the description of people who are such as God can approve of, and delight in. _THAT SEEK THY FACE, O JACOB._] It is most certain that אלהי _Elohey, O God_, has been lost out of the _Hebrew_ text in most MSS., but it is preserved in two of _Kennicott's_ MSS., and also in the _Syriac, Vulgate, Septuagint, AEthiopic, Arabic_, and _Anglo-Saxon_. THIS IS THE GENERATION OF THEM THAT SEEK HIM - This describes the race of those who seek Him; or, this is their character. The word “generation” here is used evidently in the sense of “race, people, or persons.” This is the character or description of the “persons” who seek His favor; or, this is the character of His true friends. EXPOSITION AT first sight this psalm seems to be composed of two quite separate fragments (Psalms 24:1 and Psalms 24:7); whence Ewald has laid it down that, in their origin, the two parts were wholly separate, and that the union took place subsequently. But a careful consideration reveals points of unity which favour the view that the connection was intended from the first, and is essential and congenital.
