The Hebrew, third person for the first, has a graphic relation to the redeemed, also a more modest sound than us, priests (Bengel). UNTO OUR GOD. So B 'Aleph ('); but A omits. KINGS. So B; but A 'Aleph ('), Vulgate, Coptic, Cyprian, 'a kingdom.' 'Aleph (') reads also 'a priesthood' for priests. They who cast their crowns before the throne do not call themselves kings before the great King (Revelation 4:10); though their priestly access has such dignity, that their reigning on earth cannot exceed it. AND HAST MADE US UNTO OUR GOD KINGS AND PRIESTS - See the notes on Revelation 1:6. AND WE SHALL REIGN ON THE EARTH - The redeemed, of whom we are the representatives. The idea clearly is, in accordance with what is so frequently said in the Scriptures, that the dominion on the earth will be given to the saints; that is, that there will be such a prevalence of true religion, and the redeemed will be so much in the ascendency, that the affairs of the nations will be in their hands. EXPOSITION REVELATION 5:1 AND I SAW. As in Revelation 4:1, this phrase introduces a new incident in the vision. That which had been witnessed remained, but a further development now takes place. Revelation 4:1. relates the revelation of the glory of the Triune God (see on Revelation 4:2) surrounded by his Church and creation. The glory of Jesus Christ, the Lamb, is now set forth, since he is the only One worthy to receive and declare to his Church the mystery contained in the sealed book. The Alexandrian copy, and Complutensian edition, and the Syriac, Arabic, and the Ethiopic versions, read "them", instead of "us": AND WE SHALL REIGN ON THE EARTH; meaning not merely in a spiritual sense, through grace reigning over sin and corruption, through Satan being bruised under their feet, and through the victory they have in Christ over the world, but in the millennium state, in the thousand years' reign with Christ in the new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness; see Revelation 20:4. The Alexandrian copy, and the Complutensian edition, Syriac and Arabic versions, read "they shall reign"....

Revelation 5:1 . Much has been written about the meaning of the book written within and on the back side, and sealed with seven seals. What the book contains is no secret whatever. Beginning with the sixth chapter the seals are opened and after they are all broken the contents of the book are made known. The book contains the judgments for this earth preceding His coming in power and glory and the beginning of His reign. The theme of Revelation 4 is the creative power of God: the theme of Revelation 5 the redemptive power of Christ. REVELATION 5:1. The evidence for the current view rests solely upon the formerly accepted text of the Doxology (song), in which the living beings and the elders are represented as uniting, (Chapter 5:10, 11.) Criticism has shown that, in this instance, the text of the Recepta is corrupt; it has established the fact that _heemas_ (us) and _basileusomen_ (we will rule) are corruptions of _autous_ (them) and _basileusousin_ (they will rule), and has rendered probable (_certain,_ in the opinion of Lange, Alford and Tischendorf,) the further fact that the _heemas_ (us) of verse. is an interpolation.--_ Am.
