Josué 14:1

And these are the countries which the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritance to them.

Ce sont les pays dont les enfants d'Israël ont hérité au pays de Canaan. Ce chanteur constitue l'introduction à un récit de l'attribution des terres à l'ouest de la Jordanie, ou Canaan proprement dit, aux neuf tribus et demie. Elle a également été tirée au sort en présence d'un certain nombre de surintendants, nommés selon les instructions divines données à Moïse (voir la note à Nombres 34:16 - Nombres 34:29). Dans tout ce qui concernait le gouvernement civil, et même la division du territoire, Joshua était le chef reconnu. Mais dans une question à déterminer par tirage au sort, un appel solennel a été fait à Dieu, et par conséquent, Éléazar, en tant que grand prêtre, est nommé devant Josué.
