And we cast the lots among the priests, the Levites, and the people, for the wood offering, to bring it into the house of our God, after the houses of our fathers, at times appointed year by year, to burn upon the altar of the LORD our God, as it is written in the law:

Nous avons tiré au sort ... pour l'offrande du bois. Le transport du bois était autrefois l'œuvre des Néhiniens. Mais peu d'entre eux étant revenus, le devoir a été assigné comme indiqué dans le texte. La pratique a ensuite pris une grande importance; et Josèphe parle («Guerres», 2:, 17, sec. 6) de Xylophorie, ou de certains moments déclarés et solennels où les gens ont amené du bois au temple.
