Ezechiele 18:7

E non ha oppresso alcuno, ma ha restituito al debitore il suo pegno, non ha guastato nessuno con la violenza, ha dato il suo pane all'affamato, e ha coperto con una veste gli ignudi;

Ha restituito al debitore il suo pegno, ciò di cui il povero debitore aveva assolutamente bisogno, come la sua veste, che il creditore era tenuto a restituire prima del tramonto ( Esodo 22:26 ), e la sua macina, che era necessaria per preparare il suo cibo ( Deuteronomio 24:6 ; Deuteronomio 24:10 ).

Hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked - (Isaia 58:7; Matteo 25:35). After duties of justice come those of benevolence. It is not enough to refrain from doing a wrong to our neighbour; we must also do him good. The bread owned by a man, though "his," is given to him, not to keep to himself, but to impart to the needy.
