2 Chronicles 27:2

_AND HE DID THAT WHICH WAS RIGHT IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD, ACCORDING TO ALL THAT HIS FATHER UZZIAH DID: HOWBEIT HE ENTERED NOT INTO THE TEMPLE OF THE LORD. AND THE PEOPLE DID YET CORRUPTLY._ He did that which was right. The general rectitude of his government is described by representing it as conducted on the excellent principles which had guided the early part of his father's reign. THE PEOPLE DID YET CORRUPTLY - (see 2 Kings 15:35); but the description here is more emphatic, that though Jotham did much to promote the good of his kingdom, and aimed at a thorough reformation in religion, the widespread and inveterate wickedness of the people frustrated all his laudable efforts....

Verse 2 Chronicles 27:2. _HE ENTERED NOT INTO THE TEMPLE_] He copied his father's conduct as far as it was constitutional; and avoided his transgression. See the preceding chapter. (2 Chronicles 26)...

EXPOSITION This chapter of nine verses is paralleled by the seven verses of 2 Kings 15:32-12. It consists of personal particulars respecting Jotham (2 Kings 15:1, 2 Kings 15:2); his building and his wars (2 Kings 15:3); a reference to his further doings (2 Kings 15:7); an exact repetition of a part of the first verse (2 Kings 15:8); his death, burial, and. successor (2

CHAPTER 27 THE REIGN OF JOTHAM _ 1. The reign of Jotham (2 Chronicles 27:1)_ 2. The death of Jotham (2 Chronicles 27:7) The record of the reign of Jotham is brief in both 2 Kings and in Chronicles. He did also what was right in the sight of the LORD. The statement “howbeit he entered not into the temple of the LORD” means that he did not act as Uzziah, his father did, when he intruded into the functions of the priesthood. However, in spite of the good example of the king, the people continued in their departure from Jehovah. “And the people did yet corruptly.” All the evils of a false worship continued and were not stopped. THE LORD. Hebrew. _Jehovah._ App-4. ACCORDING TO ALL: i.e. to all the good, not the evil. Hence the "howbeit", which follows. ENTERED NOT INTO. As his father had done (2 Chronicles 26:16). Not like Ahaz (2 Chronicles 28:24)....

_howbeit he entered not into the temple of the Lord_ Kings has a different limitation, viz., "howbeit the high places were not removed." _did yet corruptly_ In Kings, "sacrificed and burnt incense still in the high places....

AND THE PEOPLE DID YET CORRUPTLY.— _And the people yet worshipped corruptly,_ see 2 Kings 15:35....
