_AND THE PORCH THAT WAS IN THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE, THE LENGTH OF IT WAS ACCORDING TO THE BREADTH OF THE HOUSE, TWENTY CUBITS, AND THE HEIGHT WAS AN HUNDRED AND TWENTY: AND HE OVERLAID IT WITHIN WITH PURE GOLD._ The porch. The breadth of the house, whose length ran from east to west, is here given as the measure of the length of the piazza. The portico would thus be from 30 to 35 feet long, and from 15 to 17 1/2 feet broad. THE HEIGHT WAS AN HUNDRED AND TWENTY CUBITS. This, taking the cubit at 18 inches, would be 180 feet; at 21 inches, 210 feet; so that the porch would rise in the form of a tower, or two pyramidal towers, whose united height was 120 cubits, and each of them about 90 or 105 feet high (Stieglitz). Verse 2 Chronicles 3:4. _THE HEIGHT WAS A HUNDRED AND TWENTY_] Some think this should be _twenty_ only; but if the same building is spoken of as in 1 Kings 6:2, the height was only _thirty cubits_. _Twenty_ is the reading of the _Syriac_, the _Arabic,_ and the _Septuagint_ in the _Codex Alexandrinus_. The MSS. give us no help. There is probably a mistake here, which, from the similarity of the letters, might easily occur. The words, as they now stand in the Hebrew text, are מאה ואשרים _meah veesrim, one hundred and_ _twenty_. But probably the letters in מאה _meah, a hundred_, are transposed for אמה _ammah, a cubit_, if, therefore, the א _aleph_ be placed after the מ _mem_, then the word will be מאה _meah one_ _hundred_; if...

THE HEIGHT WAS AN HUNDRED AND TWENTY CUBITS - This height, which so much exceeds that of the main building 1 Kings 6:2, is probably to be corrected by the reading of the Arabic Version and the Alexandrian Septuagint, “twenty cubits.” But see 2 Chronicles 3:9....

EXPOSITION 2 CHRONICLES 3:1 MOUNT MORIAH. This name מוֹריָה occurs twice in the Old Testament, viz. here and Genesis 22:2, in which latter reference it is alluded to as "the _land _of Moriah," and "one of the mountains" in it is spoken of. Whether the name designates the same place in each instance is more than doubtful. In the present passage the connection of the place with David is marked. Had it been the spot connected with Abraham and the proposed sacrifice of Isaac, it is at least probable that this also would have been emphasized, and not here only, but in 2 Samuel 24:17-10 and...
