Rather, he is like a man building a house, who dug, and kept deepening, and laid a foundation on the rock. The rock is Christ and the teaching of Christ (1 Corinthians 10:4). Whether tested by flood, or by fire (1 Corinthians 3:11-15), only the genuine building stands. In another sense, too, "the wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand," Proverbs 12:7.
