Exo. 12:22. The striking or sprinkling the blood of the lamb with a bunch of hyssop on the two side-posts and lintel of the door signifies the cleansing of our conversation by the blood of Christ, which is, in the language of Sacred Scripture, called "our going out and coming in," (1 Samuel 29:6). Surely, etc.: 2 Samuel 3:25. Thou knowest, etc.: 2 Kings 19:27. I know, etc.: Isaiah 37:28; Psalms 121:8. The Holy Spirit probably has respect to this very type of the going and coming being cleansed by the blood of the Paschal Lamb in 1 Peter 1:18; 1 Peter 1:19, where the Apostle speaks of our being redeemed from our vain conversation by the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. The destroying angel passed by none but those who had the blood of the Lamb on their door-posts, signifying that when God comes to proceed with men as a judge He will judge everyone according to his works, and will save none but those whose conversation has been cleansed by the blood of Christ, [see verse Exodus 12:7.]
