JEREMIAH—NOTE ON Jeremiah 34:1 God Judges 1:1 Judah. Having declared Judah and Israel’s current sins (chs. Jeremiah 2:1) and future renewal (chs. Jeremiah 30:1), Jeremiah now depicts Judah’s final days. He does so while declaring God’s faithfulness and Judah’s infidelity (chs. Jeremiah 34:1), Judah’s rejection of God’s word (ch. Jeremiah 36:1), Judah’s last days before Jerusalem’s destruction (chs. Jeremiah 37:1), Judah’s pointless rebellion against Babylon after the city’s fall (chs. Jeremiah 40:1), and Judah’s useless rebellion against God (chs. Jeremiah 42:1).
