Acts 5:16

Also a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed.

1. The word is spreading rapidly. Now sick people from other cities are coming.

2. All were healed. This one event of a lame man has now exploded into the whole territory around Jerusalem.

3. All who were tormented - Thayer says this word means, "to be vexed, molested, troubled: by demons"

4. Unclean spirits - There are two possible explanations:

1. Demon possessed - Those who were controlled by Satan

2. Sinners doing immoral things - Adultery, incest, rape, etc. All who committed immoral acts were said to be unclean.

3. Unclean - in the Jewish use of the term, was anything that was ceremonially unclean. This would include touching a dead body, doing unclean (immoral) sins, and eating meat that was "unclean".
