The presence of tina, after Si,mwna is altogether appropriate in the mouth of Cornelius, to whom Peter was unknown. On the other hand, however, the expression “a certain Simon who is called Peter” may have seemed to copyists to lack proper respect for the chief of the apostles, and so the belittling tina, was dropped.
