He went with him

(απηλθεν). Aorist tense. Went off with him promptly, but a great multitude followed him (ηκολουθε), was following, kept following (imperfect tense).They thronged him

(συνεθλιβον αυτον). Imperfect tense again. Only example of (here and in verse Mark 5:31) this compound verb in the N.T., common in old Greek. Were pressing Jesus so that he could hardly move because of the jam, or even to breathe (συνεπνιγον, Luke 8:42).
