Deuteronomy 31:24

_AND IT CAME TO PASS, WHEN MOSES HAD MADE AN END OF WRITING THE WORDS OF THIS LAW IN A BOOK, UNTIL THEY WERE FINISHED,_ When Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished. That Moses, at an early period in the course of his divine legislation, was commanded to record God's wonderful doings and deliverances to Israel, appears from Exodus 17:14 [where it is called _ BACEEPER_ (H5612), in THE book, Deuteronomy 24:4, "the book of the covenant"]. To this book he from time to time made successive additions, as the inspiring 'Spirit which was in him did signify;' and here it is stated, as one of the last acts of his laborious life, that 'he made an end of writing all the words of this law х `

24._And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end. _By “the words of this law,” we must understand not only those which are embraced in this book, but in the other three also; and there is an implied antithesis between the two tables written by God’s hand, and the exposition which was afterwards added, lest there should be any obscurity respecting God’s will on account of the brevity with which it was delivered. At the very beginning, indeed, God had set forth whatever it was useful for them to know, but it was His will that what He had briefly comprehended in the Decalogue should be more fully unfolded, and not only so, but that it should be also committed to writing, lest it should be forgotten. 23-30 The solemn delivery of the book of the law to the Levites, to be deposited in, or rather by the side, of the ark, is again related. The song which follows in the next chapter is delivered to Moses, and by him to the people. He wrote it first, as the Holy Spirit taught him; and then spake it in the hearing of all the people. Moses tells them plainly, I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves. Many a sad thought, no doubt, it occasioned to this good man; but his comfort was, that he had done his duty, and that God would be glorified in their dispersion, if not in their settlement, for the foundation of God stands sure....

Moses completes the writing out of the book of the Law, and directs it to be placed by the ark of the covenant. _had made an end of writing the words of this law_ If _Law_be the original reading, Deuteronomy 31:24 are not the sequel, but a parallel to Deuteronomy 31:9-13, for 9 also implies the completion of the writing of the Law in recording its delivery to _the priests, the sons of Levi_.
