_AND HE MADE THE COURT: ON THE SOUTH SIDE SOUTHWARD THE HANGINGS OF THE COURT WERE OF FINE TWINED LINEN, AN HUNDRED CUBITS:_ The court. It occupied a space of 150 feet by 75, and it was enclosed by curtains of fine linen, about 8 feet high, suspended on brasen or copper pillars. Those curtains were secured by rods fastened to the top, and kept extended by being fastened to pins stuck in the ground. Verse 10. HOOKS. The hooks of the pillars in the court were for hanging up the carcasses of the sacrificial beasts-those on the pillars at the entry of the tabernacle were for hanging the sacerdotal robes and other things used in the service. 21._This is the sum of the tabernacle _(302) As much as to say that this was the computation, or these the numbers; for he gives us to understand that not only was the tabernacle thus at once completed, but that its several parts were numerically distinguished, and consigned as it were to registers, (303) so as to be given in charge to the Levites, lest any part of it should be lost. For the reference here is not so much to the fabric, or the architecture of the tabernacle, as to its perpetual conservation, viz., that Ithamar the priest deposited its several parts with the Levites, and this in accordance with the command of Moses....

21-31 The foundation of massy pieces of silver showed the solidity and purity of the truth upon which the church is founded. Let us regard the Lord Jesus Christ while reading of the furniture of the tabernacle. While looking at the altar of burnt-offering, let us see Jesus. In him, his righteousness, and salvation, is a full and sufficient offering for sin. In the laver of regeneration, by his Holy Spirit, let our souls be washed, and they shall be clean; and as the people offered willingly, so may our souls be made willing. Let us be ready to part with any thing, and count all but loss to win Christ....

THIS IS THE SUM ... - “This is the reckoning of the tabernacle, the tabernacle of the Testimony as it was reckoned up according to the commandment of Moses, by the service of the Levites, by the hand of Ithamar,” etc. The weight of the metals was taken by the Levites, under the direction of Ithamar. The tabernacle is called the tabernacle of the testimony, or the depository of the testimony, i. e. the tables of the law Exodus 25:16....

EXPOSITION THE SUM OF THE TABERNACLE, OR WEIGHT OF THE METALS EMPLOYED IN IT. Before dismissing the subject of the construction of the tabernacle, Moses places on record the sum of the gold, silver and bronze contributed and consumed in the work. EXODUS 38. P S. ALTAR, LAVER, AND COURT. The great altar of burnt-offering is now so distinguished in Exodus 38:1 (in Exodus 27:1 * it is the altar). The laver is briefly mentioned (Exodus 38:8_ a_, _cf. Exodus 30:18_), the reference to the mirrors of the host of women (Exodus 38:8_ b)_ being regarded as a gloss because presupposing the erection of the Tent.
