Verse Exodus 38:26. _A BEKAH FOR EVERY MAN_] The Hebrew word בקי _beka_, from בקי _baka_, to _divide, separate into two_, seems to signify, not a particular coin, but a shekel _broken_ or _cut in two_; so, anciently, our _farthing_ was a penny divided in the midst and then subdivided, so that each division contained the _fourth part_ of the _penny_; hence its name _fourthing_ or _fourthling_, since corrupted into _farthing_. THERE appear to be _three_ particular reasons why much riches should be employed in the construction of the tabernacle, c. 1.
