Prophecy against Ammon The name of this people is usually the children of Ammon (Beni Ammon). This is the name both of the people and the country (in the latter case construed as _fem. Ezekiel 25:3; Ezekiel 25:10_). Ammon was recognised by Israel as a distant member of the same family with themselves (Genesis 19:38). At an early period the people was settled on the E. of the Jordan, between the Arnon and the Jabbok (Judges 11:13), but before the Exodus they had been dispossessed of this territory by Amorites from the W. of the Jordan, and pushed eastward towards the desert ...

The Ammonites, Moabites and Edomites, though nearly related to the Jews, bore them a constant hatred, and took all opportunities to shew it when they were under any distress; particularly, at the time of the general captivity, and the destruction of their city and temple. We have no distinct account of the accomplishment of these prophesies: the sacred writers content themselves with predicting, without declaring the event. But we learn from profane history, that Nebuchadrezzar subjected to his empire all Syria, Phoenicia, Arabia, and Egypt, and, consequently, the people spoken of in this chapter. See Calmet....

JUDGMENT ON NEIGHBORING NATIONS 25:1-17 Ezekiel devotes eight Chapter s of his book to oracles against foreign nations. Jerusalem had fallen. Yet before Ezekiel related this fact to his readers he recorded the revelation that God would some day judge the heathen nations and cities around Judah. He speaks of seven different nations in all.
