For thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast clapped thine hands, and stamped with the feet, and rejoiced in heart with all thy despite against the land of Israel; BECAUSE THOU HAST CLAPPED THINE HANDS ... BEHOLD, THEREFORE I WILL STRETCH OUT MINE HAND UPON THEE - "Because thou hast clapped thine hands," exulting over the downfall of Jerusalem, "I (also) will stretch out mine hand upon thee," to cause thy downfall (to which Ezekiel 21:17 also may refer, "I will smite mine hands together"). Prophecy against Ammon The name of this people is usually the children of Ammon (Beni Ammon). This is the name both of the people and the country (in the latter case construed as _fem. Ezekiel 25:3; Ezekiel 25:10_). Ammon was recognised by Israel as a distant member of the same family with themselves (Genesis 19:38). JUDGMENT ON NEIGHBORING NATIONS 25:1-17 Ezekiel devotes eight Chapter s of his book to oracles against foreign nations. Jerusalem had fallen. Yet before Ezekiel related this fact to his readers he recorded the revelation that God would some day judge the heathen nations and cities around Judah. He speaks of seven different nations in all. § 1. AMMON, MOAB, EDOM, AND PHILISTIA These four nations were the neighbours of Israel on the E., SE., and SW. respectively, and are dealt with in their geographical order. Ammon and Moab are denounced for their exultation at the fall of Jerusalem, Edom and Philistia for their revengeful share in Israel's humiliation. All of them are threatened with destruction from God. The instruments of the judgment are to be the Bedouins of the desert in the case of Ammon and Moab, and Israel in the case of Edom.
