Ezekiel 46:6

_LIKEWISE THE PEOPLE OF THE LAND SHALL WORSHIP AT THE DOOR OF THIS GATE BEFORE THE LORD IN THE SABBATHS AND IN THE NEW MOONS._ No JFB commentary on these verses. Ezekiel 46:9 BUT WHEN THE PEOPLE OF THE LAND SHALL COME BEFORE THE LORD IN THE SOLEMN FEASTS, HE THAT ENTERETH IN BY THE WAY OF THE NORTH GATE TO WORSHIP SHALL GO OUT BY THE WAY OF THE SOUTH GATE; AND HE THAT ENTERETH BY THE WAY OF THE SOUTH GATE SHALL GO FORTH BY THE WAY OF THE NORTH GATE: HE SHALL NOT RETURN BY THE WAY OF THE GATE WHEREBY HE CAME IN, BUT SHALL GO FORTH OVER AGAINST IT. _ When the people of the land shall come before the Lord in the solemn feasts, he that entereth in by the way of the north gate to worship shall go out by the way of the south gate._ The worshippers were on the great feasts to pass from one side to the other, through the temple courts, in order that,

Compare with Numbers 28. The enumeration of the offerings both for the Sabbath and new moon is here less complete than there; e. g., the drink offerings are passed by, and in the case of the new moon festival no mention is made of the blowing of trumpets (compare Numbers 10:10)....

EXPOSITION This chapter fails into three divisions. The first (Ezekiel 46:1) gives supplementary directions for the prince and the people of the land when engaged in solemn acts of worship; the second (Ezekiel 46:16) furnishes the prince with instructions as to how he may dispose of his portion or inheritance; the third (Ezekiel 46:19) adds particulars about the sacrificial kitchens for the priests and for the people. EZEKIEL 46:1 The supplementary directions contained in these verses relate to the worship of the prince and the people on the sabbaths and the new moons ...

AND IN THE DAY OF THE NEW MOON IT SHALL BE A YOUNG BULLOCK WITHOUT BLEMISH,.... This is also different from the law of Moses, which required two young bullocks and a ram, and seven lambs, Numbers 28:11, whereas here only one bullock: AND SIX LAMBS, AND A RAM; THEY SHALL BE WITHOUT BLEMISH; and here Kimchi acknowledges again that this is a new thing to be done in future time. Some have observed, that the seven lambs under the law showed that perfection might be hoped for and expected; but, there being but six now, that this is not yet attained, nor will be till the saints get to heaven; though perfection is come by the priesthood of Christ, whose sacrifice is a perfect and complete one, and by which his people are perfected, and they are complete in him, yet they have no perfection in themselves....

THE SABBATH, NEW MOON, AND OTHER FESTIVALS. On the Sabbath day, seven animals, besides meal and oil, were to be offered; on the new moon the offering was the same, with the addition of a bullock. The prince, who might not enter into the sacred inner court, watched the sacrifice being offered from his place at the threshold of its eastern gate (Ezekiel 46:1). To prevent confusion the worshippers were obliged to leave the outer court by the opposite gate from that by which they had entered (Ezekiel 46:8 f.). It was the prince's duty to provide for the daily burnt offering. When, in addition to this, he made a free-will offering, the eastern gate of the inner court was opened for him, as on the Sabbath and new moon (Ezekiel

Offerings for the Sabbath and new moon The prince was under obligation, besides providing for the great festivals of unleavened bread or passover and tabernacles (Ezekiel 45:21; Ezekiel 45:25), and for the special new moons in the first and seventh months (Ezekiel 45:18; Ezekiel 45:20), to furnish offerings also for the sabbaths and the ordinary new moons. These two days in Ezekiel serve the same purpose as the great Day of Atonement on the tenth day of the seventh month (Leviticus 16; Numbers 29:7)....
