Ezekiel 48:29

This is the land which ye shall divide by lot unto the tribes of Israel for inheritance, and these are their portions, saith the Lord GOD. This is the land which ye shall divide. Thus the order of allotments is: IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAS THE TEMPLE, AND THIS WHOLE PORTION WAS GIVEN TO THE PRIESTS OF ZADOK'S LINE. B WAS GIVEN TO THE LEVITES. EZEKIEL 48. THE TRIBAL ALLOTMENTS. The holy city, Jerusalem, with its environments is significantly regarded as the true centre, geographical no less than religious, of the country; but, as in point of fact it really lay in the southern half, the prophet, in his ideal allotment of the land, makes a concession to geographical fact by putting seven tribes to the north, arranged in parallel strips, viz. The tribes lying south of the oblation First, Benjamin, which changes places with Judah, and bounds the oblation on the south (Ezekiel 48:23). The two tribes that formed the ancient kingdom of Judah still have the prerogative of lying nearest the sanctuary. Then Simeon, formerly located in the south (Ezekiel 48:24). Then successively Issachar (Ezekiel 48:25), Zebulun (Ezekiel 48:26), and finally Gad (Ezekiel 48:27). The two former are brought down from the north, and Gad from beyond the Jordan....

FOR INHERITANCE— "Since there is no doubt but that other things which are said in these Chapter s relating to the temple and the land of Israel are of a prophetical nature, it seems safer to determine, that the abovementioned measures were observed both in building the temple and in assigning the lots to the tribes; though we know not how these things were done, because there is a great charm in the sacred history from the time of Ezra to that of the Maccabees." THE NEW ISRAEL (EZEKIEL 33-48) So long as the Jewish kingdom remained in existence Ezekiel's prophecies (those in Ezekiel 1-24) dealt almost exclusively with the nation's sin, and with the certainty of its overthrow. But when these prophecies were fulfilled by the fall of Jerusalem his message assumed a new and hopeful character. God's punishment of Israel's sin was not the end of His dealings with His people. The destruction of the old sinful Israel would be followed by the establishment of a perfect kingdom of God. The humiliation of the foreign nations (described in Ezekiel 25-32) would prepare the way for this, and would be succeeded by the restoration of the exiles.
