Verse Isaiah 8:14. _AND HE SHALL BE FOR A SANCTUARY_ - "And he shall be unto you a sanctuary"] The word לכם _lachem, unto you_, absolutely necessary, as I conceive, to the sense, is lost in this place: it is preserved by the _Vulgate_, "et erit _vobis_ in sanctificationem." The _Septuagint_ have it in the singular number: εσται σοι εις ἁγιασμον, _it shall be to THEE_. Or else, instead of מקדש _mikdash, a sanctuary_, we must read מוקש _mokesh, a snare_, which would then be repeated without any propriety or elegance, at the end of the verse. The _Chaldee_ reads instead of it משפט _mishpat,_ _judgment_; for he renders it by פורען _purean_, which word frequently answers to משפט _mishpat_ in his paraphrase. One MS. has in stead of מקדש ולאבן _mikdash uleeben_, להם לאבן lahem leeben, which clears the sense and construction. But...
