Jeremiah 30:2

Thus speaketh the LORD God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book. WRITE THEE ALL THE WORDS THAT I HAVE SPOKEN UNTO THEE IN A BOOK. After the destruction of Jerusalem he is not ordered, as heretofore, to speak, but to write the succeeding prophecy (, etc.), so as thereby it might be read by his countrymen wheresoever they might be in their dispersion....

He says that God had commanded him to _write in a book all the words _which he had heard; and the reason follows, _For, behold, come shall the days, saith Jehovah, in which I will restore the captivity of my people Israel and Judah _(2) There is to be understood a contrast between the restoration mentioned here and that of which the false prophets had prattled when they animated the people with the hope of a return in a short time; for, as I have said, that false expectation, when the Jews sought unseasonably to return to their own country, was a sort of mental inebriety. But when they found that they had been deceived, despair only remained for them. Hence the Prophet recalls them here to a quietness of mind, even that they might know that God would prove faithful after they found out that they had rashly embraced what impostors had of themselves _proclaimed _We then see that there is h...

1-11 Jeremiah is to write what God had spoken to him. The very words are such as the Holy Ghost teaches. These are the words God ordered to be written; and promises written by his order, are truly his word. He must write a description of the trouble the people were now in, and were likely to be in. A happy end should be put to these calamities. Though the afflictions of the church may last long, they shall not last always. The Jews shall be restored again. They shall obey, or hearken to the Messiah, the Christ, the Son of David, their King. The deliverance of the Jews from Babylon, is pointed out in the prophecy, but the restoration and happy state of Israel and Judah, when converted to Christ their King, are foretold; also the miseries of the nations before the coming of Christ. All men must honour the Son as they honour the Father, and come into the service and worship of God by him....

Verse Jeremiah 30:2. _WRITE THEE ALL THE WORDS THAT I HAVE SPOKEN UNTO THEE_ _IN A BOOK._] The _book_ here recommended I believe to be the _thirtieth_ and _thirty-first_ chapters; for among the Hebrews any portion of writing, in which the subject was _finished_, however small, was termed ספר _sepher_, a BOOK, a _treatise_ or _discourse._ __...

WRITE ... IN A BOOK - To be read and meditated upon by them in private. This makes it exceedingly probable that the date of these two chapters was also the 10th year of Zedekiah, immediately after the purchase of the field from Hanameel. ALL THE WORDS - i. e., the scroll was to be a summary of whatever of hope and mercy had been contained in previous predictions....

EXPOSITION This and the three next chapters form a kind of book in themselves, which contrasts admirably with Jermiah 27-29. In the latter Jeremiah aimed at casting down the delusive hope that the time of trial would soon be over and the captives restored; here he assumes that all are aware of the sad reality, and concentrates himself on the happier topics of comfort and encouragement. Jeremiah 30:1; Jeremiah 31:1. shine out among all Jeremiah's prophecies; there is a combination of softness and vigour which, even from a purely literary point of view, is most attractive. Strictly speaking, they ought to form but one chapter; they represent (as verse 4 states) the revelation from Jehovah "concerning Israel and concerning Judah." Jeremiah 30:1. _The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book._ Too good to be lost. The prophets said much when they did not write, and this particular chapter and the next were to be carefully written down. God here begins to deal with his guilty people in a way of love and mercy. It is a very strange chapter, one of the richest, one of the most cheering in the whole of God's Word. Therefore, write it in a book. WRITE Three "writings" by Jeremiah are to be distinguished: (1) This is impersonal -- a general prophecy, and probably the earliest. (Jeremiah 30:1); (Jeremiah 30:40). (2) The prophecy destroyed by Jehoiakim. (Jeremiah 1:1); (Jeremiah 1:23). (3) The destroyed writing re-written doubtless the writing preserved to us. (Jeremiah 36:27)....

De Wette, Hitzig, and other rationalists, claim to have discovered that this chapter, and those which follow, are the work of the spurious “second Isaiah.” The critics, with their present day echoes in different colleges, reject these Chapter s as not being Jeremianic.
