WEARIETH, х_ YATRIYACH_ (H2959)] - burdeneth it, so that it falls in rain: thus "wearieth" answers to the parallel "scattereth" (cf. note, Job 37:9); a clear sky resulting alike from both. BRIGHT CLOUD - literally, cloud of His light, i:e., of His lightning. Umbreit, for "watering" х_ BªRIY_ (H7377), from _ RIY _ (H7377), watering], etc., translates, 'Brightness drives away the clouds; His light scattereth the thick clouds.' 1-13 The changes of the weather are the subject of a great deal of our thoughts and common talk; but how seldom do we think and speak of these things, as Elihu, with a regard to God, the director of them! We must notice the glory of God, not only in the thunder and lightning, but in the more common and less awful changes of the weather; as the snow and rain. Nature directs all creatures to shelter themselves from a storm; and shall man only be unprovided with a refuge? Oh that men would listen to the voice of God, who in many ways warns them to flee from the wrath to come; and invites them to accept his salvation, and to be happy. The ill opinion which men entertain of the Divine direction, peculiarly appears in their murmurs about the weather, though the whole result of the year proves the folly of their complaints. Verse Job 37:11. _BY WATERING HE WEARIETH THE THICK CLOUD_] Perhaps it would be better to say, _The brightness_ _beri, dissipates the_ _cloud_; or, if we follow our version, _By watering_ the earth _he_ _wearieth_, wearieth out or emptieth, _the thick cloud _- causes it to pour down all its contents upon the earth, that they may cause it to bring forth and bud. The _Vulgate_ understood it differently: _Frumentum desiderat nubes, et nubes spargunt lumen suum_. "The grain desireth the clouds; and the clouds scatter abroad their light....

Herder renders it, “His brightness rendeth the clouds.” Umbreit, Und Heiterkeit vertreibt die Wolke - “and serenity or clearness drives away the clouds.” Prof. Lee, “For irrigation is the thick cloud stretched out.” Rosenmuller, “Splendor dispels the clouds.” Luther, “The thick clouds divide themselves that it may be clear.” Coverdale, “The clouds do their labor in giving moistness.” The Vulgate, “The grain desires the clouds,” and the Septuagint, “The cloud forms the chosen” - ἐκλεκτον _eklekton_. This variety of interpretation arises from the uncertainty of the meaning of the original word - ברי _b__e__rı̂y_. According to the Chaldee and the rabbis, this word means “clearness, serenity” of the heavens, and then the whole clause is to be rendered, “sere

Elihu trembles at this. Listen to the thunder. First the lightning flashes (Job 37:3) then the thunder follows (Job 37:4 f.). Job 37:2 suggests that a thunderstorm was actually taking place while Elihu was speaking, and many see in this a preparation for the manifestation of Yahweh in ch. 38. It is not clear, however, that the author intended this, as he passes on from the thunderstorm to snow and rain. These God sends on the earth (Job 37:6).
