AND THEY LIFTED UP THEIR VOICES - their common misery, as Trench remarks, drawing these poor outcasts together (see 2 Kings 7:3), nay, causing them to forget the fierce national antipathy which reigned between Jew and Samaritan. 11-19 A sense of our spiritual leprosy should make us very humble whenever we draw near to Christ. It is enough to refer ourselves to the compassions of Christ, for they fail not. We may look for God to meet us with mercy, when we are found in the way of obedience. Only one of those who were healed returned to give thanks. It becomes us, like him, to be very humble in thanksgivings, as well as in prayers. Christ noticed the one who thus distinguished himself, he was a Samaritan. The others only got the outward cure, he alone got the spiritual blessing....

Verse Luke 17:13. _THEY LIFTED UP THEIR VOICES_] They cried with _one_ accord-they were all _equally_ necessitous, and there was but _one_ _voice_ among them all, though _ten_ were engaged in crying at the same time. As they were _companions_ in suffering, they were also companions in prayer. Prayer should be strong and earnest, when the disease is great and inveterate. Sin is the worst of all leprosies; it not only _separates_ those to whom it cleaves from the righteous, but it separates them from God; and nothing but the _pitying_ heart and _powerful_ hand of Christ Jesus can set any soul free from it....
