For the LORD hath turned away the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel: for the emptiers have emptied them out, and marred their vine branches. What is now subjoined has been added, in my view, in reference to what had already taken place, that is that God _had taken away the pride of Jacob, as the pride of Israel _Some give this rendering, “God has made to returns or to rest;” and they take גאון, _gaun, _in a good sense, as meaning courage or glory.
