And Huzzab shall be led away captive, she shall be brought up, and her maids shall lead her as with the voice of doves, tabering upon their breasts. HUZZAB - the name of the Queen of Nineveh, from a Hebrew root [hutsab, from naatsab (H5324), to settle or fix], implying that she stood by the king (Psalms 45:9, "Upon thy right hand did stand the queen"). There is some ambiguity in these words, and many interpreters think that הצב, _estab, _to be the name of the queen. The queen then they say, of the name of הצב, _estab_, is drawn away into exile; she is bidden to ascend, that she might migrate to a hostile land. But this view is too strained; nor was there any reason to suppose the word to be a proper name, except that there was a wish to say something, and that there was no other conjecture more probable. But I regard their opinion more correct, who refer this to the state of the kingdom; and there is here, I have no doubt, a personification, which is evident if we attend to the meaning. If any one prefers to regard the queen as intended, it would yet be better to take הצב, _estab, _in its proper and real meaning, — that the queen, previously hid in her palace, and hardly able, through being so delicate, to move a

Verse 7. _AND HUZZAB SHALL BE LED AWAY CAPTIVE_] Perhaps _Huzzab_ means the _queen of Nineveh_, who had escaped the burning mentioned above by Diodorus. As there is no account of the _queen_ being burnt, but only of the king, the concubines, and the eunuchs, we may, therefore, naturally conclude that the queen escaped; and is represented here as _brought up_ and delivered to the conqueror; her maids at the same time bewailing her lot. Some think Huzzab signifies Nineveh itself....

The first word should he rendered, “And it is decreed; She shall be laid bare. It is decreed.” All this took place, otherwise than man would have thought, because it was the will of God. She (the people of the city, under the figure of a captive woman) “shall be laid bare,” in shame, to her reproach; “she shall be brought up” , to judgment, or from Nineveh as being now sunk low and depressed; “and her maids,” the lesser cities, as female attendants on the royal city, and their inhabitants represented as women, both as put to shame and for weakness. The whole empire of Nineveh was overthrown by Nabopalassar. Yet neither was the special shame wanting, that the noble matrons and virgins were so led captives in shame and sorrow. “They shall lead her, as with the voice of doves,” moaning, yet, for fear, with a subdued voice....
