Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed; SURELY I WILL NOT COME INTO THE TABERNACLE OF MY HOUSE, NOR GO UP INTO MY BED - not literally, but virtually: I will come into my house as though I did not come into it, and go up into my bed as though I did not go into it, I shall regard myself as without a hence and bed, giving myself no settled rest until I find a resting place for the ark of Yahweh (2 Samuel 6:1; ; cf. 1 Corinthians 7:29). On account this his restless state, he calls his "house" a "tabernacle" or tent. Beds were generally placed on ascent at the end of the chamber, and were approached by several steps....

Verse Psalms 132:3. _SURELY I WILL NOT COME_] This must refer to the _situation_ of the temple; or, as we would express it, he would not pass another day till he had found out the _ground_ on which to build the temple, and projected the _plan_, and devised _ways_ and _means_ to execute it. And we find that he would have acted in all things according to his oath and vow, had God permitted him. But even after the Lord told him that Solomon, not he, should build the house he still continued to show his good will by collecting treasure and materials for the building, all the rest of his life....

EXPOSITION This present "Song of Ascents" is well suited to be a "pilgrim-song"—sung by those who went up to Jerusalem to visit the temple, and revivify their faith in the God who had chosen Zion for his dwelling-place. It is concerned almost entirely with the temple, which it sets before the faithful from the first conception of it in the mind of David to its final glory when visited by the Redeemer. Psalms 132:1 are concerned with the birth of the idea in David's mind; Psalms 132:6, with its realization under Solomon; while Psalms 132:11 point to the time when David's true Son would be set upon David's throne, and the Lord himself would suddenly come to his temple, and make the glory of the se

The new house and palace David built for himself after he came to the throne, made of cedar, 2 Samuel 5:11; not that he should never enter into it till he had found a dwelling for God, but that he should not go into it with pleasure till that was done; for this and what follows are hyperboles, as Kimchi observes, and signify that he should have no peace nor satisfaction of mind till this was accomplished. It may be applied to our Lord's ascension to heaven, which was not till after he had purchased the church with his blood, which is the temple and habitation of God; NOR GO UP INTO MY BED; or "the bed that made for me" r; the royal bed, a bed of down, with soft pillows, fit for a person of such dignity to lie down on. This Psalm is a prayer and pleading of the covenant, such a prayer as might have been offered by Solomon at the opening of the Temple, or by any of the descendants of David, either in their times of joy or in their seasons of affliction. It divides itself into three parts. In the first seven verses, mention is made of David's zeal for the ark and for the house of the Lord. Then, in three more verses, there follows the prayer at the moving of the ark; and then the last verses mention the covenant which God made with his servant David, which is pleaded by David's descendants in after years.
