Verse Psalms 43:5. _WHY ART THOU CAST DOWN_] Though our deliverance be delayed, God has not forgotten to be gracious. The vision, the prophetic declaration relative to our captivity, was for an appointed time. Though it appear to tarry, we must wait for it. In the end it will come, and will not tarry; why then should we be discouraged? Let us still continue to trust in God, for we _shall_ _yet praise him_ for the fullest proofs of his approbation in a great outpouring of his benedictions. The sameness of this verse with Psalms 42:5, Psalms 42:11 proves, as has been already remarked, that this psalm was composed by the same writer, and with reference to the same subject as the former. EXPOSITION THE close connection of this psalm with the preceding has been already noticed (see the introduction to Psalms 42:1.). We must not, however, suppose an accidental detachment. Rather Psalms 43:1, is a supplementary stanza, added subsequently by the same or a different writer. Being intended as a continuation, the psalm has naturally no title. Hopeful prayer for restoration to the Temple. It is impossible to say who are meant by the ungodly nation, the nation that is not _hasid_ (see Psalms 43*) or pious. Following this clue we might understand by the nation that is not pious, the mass of careless or apostate Jews, since nobody would expect zealous piety from heathen. But it is doubtful if _goi._ the word translated nation, could mean here a party in a nation. Besides, _hasid_ may be used in a more general sense, viz. merciful. PSALMS 43:3.
