10-17 If we desire to share these blessings, we must hearken to Christ's word. We must forget our carnal and sinful attachments and pursuits. He must be our Lord as well as our Saviour; all idols must be thrown away, that we may give him our whole heart. And here is good encouragement, thus to break off from former alliances. WITH GLADNESS AND REJOICING SHALL THEY BE BROUGHT - They shall come forth, attending the bride, with music and songs; the procession will be one of hilarity and joy. THEY SHALL ENTER INTO THE KING’S PALACE - That is, Moving from the palace of the royal father of the bride, or from her home, they will enter the palace of her husband, her future home. If this is designed to refer to the church, it is a beautiful description of what will occur when the church redeemed shall enter heaven, the home - the palace - the glorious abode - of the great king its Saviour, and of the joy that will attend its triumphant admission into those everlasting abodes. EXPOSITION THIS psalm is regarded by some as a simple epithalamium, or nuptial hymn, composed to honour a royal wedding, and sung as part of the wedding ceremony, at the marriage of some king of Israel or Judah. The marriage of Ahab with Jezebel, and that of Jehoram of Judah with Athaliah, have been specially suggested; also Solomon's marriage with an Egyptian princess. The friends of the bride are the convert nations who bring tributary gifts. But any such theory is untenable, (_a_) The friends of the bride in Psalms 45:14 are clearly distinguished from the nations in Psalms 45:12.
