Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. -How Yahweh is to be praised by all the earth-namely, with all means in men's power-vocal and instrumental music. Verse Psalms 98:6. _WITH TRUMPETS_] חצצרות _chatsotseroth_. Some kind of tubular instruments, of the form and management of which we know nothing. _AND SOUND OF CORNET_] שופר _shophar_, the word commonly used for what we call _trumpet_....

WITH TRUMPETS - The word used here is uniformly rendered “trumpets” in the Scriptures. Numbers 10:2, Numbers 10:8; Numbers 31:6; et al. The trumpet was mainly employed for convening a public assembly for worship, or for assembling the hosts for battle. The original word - חצצרה _chătsôts__e__râh_ - is supposed to have been designed to imitate “the broken pulse-like sound of the trumpet, like the Latin _“taratantara.”_ So the German “trarara,” and the Arabic _hadadera_. The word used here was given to the long, straight trumpet. AND SOUND OF CORNET ... - The word here translated “cornet”

XCVIII. A PSALM OF GRATEFUL JOY. The poet calls all nations and all mankind to rejoice, because Yahweh has manifested His righteousness. Here, as in Psalms 98:2 Is., righteousness means Yahweh's vindication of Israel's rights (see Psalms 103:6; Isaiah 45:24). It is almost equivalent to the grace which Yahweh shows to Israel.
