And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, AND THAT HE MIGHT MAKE KNOWN THE RICHES OF HIS GLORY ON THE VESSELS OF MERCY. The word "glory" seems to be used here in the same special sense as in ; in which case the whole expression denotes that 'glorious exuberance of divine mercy' which was manifested in choosing and eternally arranging for the salvation of sinners. 23._That he might also make known the riches of his glory, etc. _I doubt not but the two particles καὶ ἵνα, is an instance of a construction, where the first word is put last; ( ὕστερον πρότερον) and that this clause may better unite with the former, I have rendered it, _That he might also make known, etc. ( __Ut notas quoque faceret _ _, etc.) _It is the second reason which manifests the glory of God in the destruction of the reprobate, because the greatness of divine _mercy _towards the elect is hereby more clearly made known; for how do they differ from them except that they are delivered by the Lord from the same gulf of destruction? and this by no merit of their own, but through his gratuitous kindness. The Jews thought that God must certainly save them. They thought they had a birth claim. Were they not the children of Abraham? Surely they had some right to it.
