RIFLESSI

Lettore! nel meditare sulle diverse cose pesanti e importanti contenute in questo capitolo, guardiamo ancora e ancora all'Onnipotente Autore della sua santa Parola, per accompagnare la nostra lettura con il suo grazioso insegnamento. Gesù, quando inviò i settanta discepoli di cui qui si parla, all'opera a cui li chiamò, li mandò solo nella città, o luogo, dove egli stesso sarebbe venuto. E senza la presenza del Signore con noi, cosa possiamo sperare di godere della grazia e della benedizione del Signore? Vediamo in Chorazin e Betsaida il terribile evento delle ordinanze evangeliche, non accompagnate dal favore divino. Signore! in grazia di Dio, concedi che il destino di Cafarnao non cada mai sul nostro Israele britannico!

Amidst this awful view, help me, thou dear Lord Jesus, help every truly regenerated Reader to rejoice in what thou hast said of Satan's fall, as lightning from Heaven. Oh! for a heart renewed by grace to sing that song which John once heard in vision: Now is come salvation and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ; for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

And oh! the greater joy still, than that of treading on serpents and scorpions, to know our names are written in Heaven. Secured by this in God the Father's everlasting love, we are One with Christ, and Christ with us; and sealed by God the Holy Ghost, unto the day of eternal redemption. Oh! Holy Father! taught by thy dear Son, let every renewed soul praise thee, that though these things be hidden, from men who are worldly wise, and prudent in their own eyes, yet hast thou revealed them unto babes. All which we humbly and thankfully refer unto thine own sovereign will and pleasure. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in thy sight!

Prezioso Signore Gesù! dacci la grazia di salutarti, grande Samaritano! Sicuramente sei tu, e tu solo, che risponde pienamente al carattere, tu stesso hai tratto, quando dal cielo sei sceso in questo nostro mondo, per cercare e salvare ciò che era perduto. Signore! porterai tutta la tua casa redenta, sebbene ferita da Satana, e morta nei falli e nei peccati! E oh! per grazia, che fino a quell'ora verrà per il tuo ritorno, il tuo popolo non può essere trovato come Marta ingombra con le molte cose di questo stato insoddisfacente, morente, peccaminoso; ma per la tua grazia che ci dà il potere, come Maria, possiamo scegliere quella parte buona che non può essere tolta.
