In allusione allo stato di Israele mentre erano in Egitto, mentre costruivano case per il Faraone, erano considerati gli schiavi più abbietti, ed è probabile che non avessero un giaciglio, o un luogo di riposo, ma si sdraiassero di notte, dopo il loro lavoro era finito, tra i rifiuti delle loro fatiche: quindi si dice che fossero, come vasi sporchi senza valore, distesi tra le pentole. Ma quando furono liberati dalla schiavitù e stabiliti nel loro regno, come ai giorni di Davide e Salomone, questi furono giorni d'oro per Israele; confrontare Esodo 1:11 ; 1 Re 10:27 .
