_THEN THEY CRIED WITH A LOUD VOICE IN THE JEWS' SPEECH UNTO THE PEOPLE OF JERUSALEM THAT WERE ON THE WALL, TO AFFRIGHT THEM, AND TO TROUBLE THEM; THAT THEY MIGHT TAKE THE CITY._ They cried with a loud voice ... unto the people of Jerusalem ... on the wall. It appears that the wall on the west side of the city reached as far to the side of the uppermost pool of Gibon at that time as it does now, if not further; and the wall was so close to that pool, that those sent to negotiate with the Assyrian general answered him in their own tongue (see the note at 2 Kings 18:27)....

EXPOSITION This chapter of thirty-three verses is paralleled by the sixty-one verses that begin with 2 Kings 18:13 and end with 2 Kings 19:37; and by Isaiah 36:1; Isaiah 37:1. Our chapter gives, as might be anticipated, but a very partial and somewhat broken account, therefore,_ _of this stretch of Hezekiah's career, and no adequate impression whatever of the great power of some portions of the parallel.
