The power of the Philistines was conclusively broken by David, but references to their rancour and injuriousness when opportunity occurred run through all the literature of Israel, Amos 1:6 seq.; Isaiah 9:12; Zephaniah 2:5; Obadiah 1:19; Joel 3:4; Zechariah 9:5.
