Amen A Hebrew word, signifying -truth," used to express concurrence in the prayer or praise uttered by another, especially in public worship. Deuteronomy 27:15; 1 Chronicles 16:36. From the synagogue it passed into the acts of worship of the Christian Church (1 Corinthians 14:16). Here it is employed as an emphatic affirmation of the ascription to which it is appended. Comp. Psalms 72:19; Revelation 1:18; Revelation 22:20.
