Revelation 22:20

He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. AMEN. EVEN SO, COME. The Song of Solomon (Song of Solomon 8:14) closes with the same yearning prayer. A B 'Aleph (') omit "Even so" [ nai (G3483)]. Translate, 'So be it (but 'Aleph (') omits Amen also), come, Lord Jesus:' joining "Amen," or 'So be it,' not with Christ's saying (for He calls Himself the "Amen" at the beginning of sentences, rather than make it a confirmation at the end), but with John's reply. Christ's "I come," and John's "Come," are almost coincident: so truly does the believer reflect the mind of his Lord....

HE WHICH TESTIFIETH THESE THINGS - The Lord Jesus; for he it was that had, through the instrumentality of the angel, borne this solemn witness to the truth of these things, and this book was to be regarded as his revelation to mankind. See the notes on Revelation 1:1; Revelation 22:16. He here speaks of himself, and vouches for the truth and reality of these things by saying that he “testifies” of them, or bears witness to them. Compare John 18:37. The fact that Jesus himself vouches for the truth of what is here revealed, shows the propriety of what John had said in the previous verses about adding to it, or taking from it. EXPOSITION REVELATION 22:1 AND HE SHOWED ME A PURE RIVER. Omit "pure." "And" connects this part of the vision with what precedes (Revelation 21:9). It would have been better, perhaps, if the twenty-first chapter had included the first five verses of the twenty-second, so as to take in the whole of the description of the heavenly Jerusalem. SURELY. COME QUICKLY. These are the words of the Lord, and mean that the chain of future events revealed shall begin its fulfillment in. short time. John adds the prayer, "Even so, come, Lord Jesus." It expresses his complete resignation to the will of the Lord. Verse 21 is the benediction of the aged apostle upon the churches. The last words of the book of inspiration are. blessing. PRACTICAL AND SUGGESTIVE. 1. God does not permit the worship of any created being or thing in heaven or earth. He in person, or as manifest in Christ, is the only object in the universe before whom man should bow in adoration. God is. jealous God. 2. Idolatry is. grievous sin. Old Israel was rejected from Jerusalem and sent into captivity for idolatry. Those who claim to be of Israel and are idolaters will be rejected from the New Jerusalem. 3.
