And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. Reply of the spiritual Church to Christ (; ; ). THE SPIRIT - in the churches and the prophets. THE BRIDE. Not here "wife," as that title applies to her only when the elect shall have been completed. The invitation, "Let him that is athirst come," only holds good while the Church is but an affianced Bride, not the actually wedded wife. "Come" is the prayer of the Spirit in the Church and in believers, in reply Christ's "I come quickly," crying. Even so, "Come" ...

6-19 The Lord Jesus spake by the angel, solemnly confirming the contents of this book, particularly of this last vision. He is the Lord God faithful and true. Also by his messengers; the holy angels showed them to holy men of God. They are things that must shortly be done; Christ will come quickly, and put all things out of doubt. And by the integrity of that angel who had been the apostle's interpreter. He refused to accept religious worship from John, and reproved him for offering it. This presents another testimony against idolatrous worship of saints and angels. God calls every one to witness to the declarations here made. AND THE SPIRIT AND THE BRIDE SAY, COME - That is, come to the Saviour; come and partake of the blessings of the gospel; come and be saved. The construction demands this interpretation, as the latter part of the verse shows. The design of this whole verse is, evidently, to show the freeness of the offers of the gospel; to condense in a summary manner all the invitations of mercy to mankind; and to leave on the mind at the close of the book a deep impression of the ample provision which has been made for the salvation of a fallen race. Nothing, it is clear, could be more appropriate at the close of this book, and at the close of the whole volume of revealed truth, than to announce, in the most clear and attracting form, that salvation is free to all, and that whosoever will may be saved. EXPOSITION REVELATION 22:1 AND HE SHOWED ME A PURE RIVER. Omit "pure." "And" connects this part of the vision with what precedes (Revelation 21:9). It would have been better, perhaps, if the twenty-first chapter had included the first five verses of the twenty-second, so as to take in the whole of the description of the heavenly Jerusalem. Hearing Christ say that he should come quickly, Revelation 22:7 the Spirit and the bride express an earnest wish, and a most affectionate desire after his coming: by "the Spirit" may be meant the Spirit of God in the hearts of his people, who not only convinces them of, and acquaints with the coming of Christ to judgment, and gives them reason to expect it, but fills their souls with the love of his appearance, so that they look and long for it, and hasten in the breathings of their souls after it: and this in like manner he may be said to wish for, and desire it in them, as he is said to cry "Abba", Father, in them, Galatians 4:6 and to make intercession for them, Romans 8:26.

Revelation 22:1. _And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb._ Here again we have God and the Lamb uniting in giving that «water of life» which flows down to us by God's grace through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus, the Lamb of God. Revelation 22:2. _In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations._ The fruit of this «tree of life « is for all those who have partaken of the water of life; and the tree provides medicine as well as food: « the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.»...

THE EPILOGUE. The Epilogue consists of the last words, warnings, and exhortations of the angel and the seer. Revelation 22:6. these words: the contents of the book. SHORTLY COME TO PASS: the author thought his prophecies would be speedily fulfilled. Revelation 22:7. I come quickly: I means Christ. The voice of Christ is heard behind the voice of the angel. AND THE SPIRIT AND THE BRIDE SAY, COME. Come and partake of all the blessings of Christ's redemption. These can be secured only by coming to Christ. He says," Come to me ye that are weary and heavy laden." Here the Spirit and the bride join in the invitation; that is, the Holy Spirit and the Church. The Holy Spirit continually invites by the words of the Holy Spirit recorded in the New Testament, as well as by moving God's servants to present his invitation. The bride, the Church, filled with the Spirit, constantly invites sinners to be saved. Every member of it should be engaged in this work. Parents should invite their children, sisters their brothers, everyone his friends, associates and neighbors, and all should then unite to have the invitation sounded out from the pulpit.
