Being therefore. prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins he would set one upon his throne;

'BEING THEREFORE. PROPHET'-Which means that David spoke by inspiration, i.e. he was an inspired writer. 'Since the body of David was still in the tomb, and he therefore was not speaking about himself, he must have been speaking of someone else. In this case, David had predicted. future event when he prophesied.' (Reese p. 69)

'KNOWING THAT GOD HAD SWORN WITH AN OATH TO HIM'-Which means that God said this to David-while David was still physically alive. 'solemnly sworn to him' (TCNT); 'made. solemn vow' (Rieu)

'THAT'-The subject matter of the oath God gave to David.

'OF THE FRUIT OF HIS LOINS'-'one of his descendants' (TCNT)

'UPON HIS THRONE'-See Psalms 89:3; Psalms 132:11; 2 Samuel 2:11.
