6-22 There is some variation here from Deuteronomy 5:20 as between the Lord's prayer in Deuteronomy 5:6 and Deuteronomy 5:11. It is more necessary that we tie ourselves to the things, than to the words unalterably. The original reason for hallowing the sabbath, taken from God's resting from the work of creation on the seventh day, is not here mentioned. And in the next place, we are to take notice, that this promise, as cited by the apostle, is not expressed in the same words as it is in the _Hebrew_ copy of the _fifth_ commandment in _Exodus,_ where that clause is not to be found, _that it may be well with thee:_ but he makes the citation from Deuteronomy, where are to be found the very words which the apostle has cited; and our translators might have used the same words in both places, if they had pleased.
