Verse Isaiah 3:10. _SAY YE TO THE RIGHTEOUS_] לצדיק _letsaddik_, the ל _lamed_ is added here by one MS. and the _Chaldee_. The righteous is the person, 1. Who fears God. 2. Departs from evil. 3. The _Septuagint_ for אמרו _imru_ read נאסר _neasor_, or both, אמרו נאסר _imru neasor_, and כי לא טוב לנו _ki lo tob lanu_. Δησωμεν τον δικαιον, ὁτι δυσχρηστος ἡμιν εστι. Perhaps, for אמרו _imru_, the true reading may be אשרו _ashsheru_, "bless you;" or אמרו אשרי _imru ashrey_, "say ye, blessed is." SAY YE TO THE RIGHTEOUS - The meaning of this verse and the following is sufficiently plain, though expositors have given some variety of interpretation. They declare a great principle of the divine administration similar to what is stated in Isaiah 1:19. Lowth reads it, ‘Pronounce ye a blessing on the just; verily good (shall be to him).’ THAT IT SHALL BE WELL ... - The word rendered ‘well,’ means ‘good.’ The sense evidently is, that in the divine administration it shall be well to be righteous. JUDAH TO BE PUNISHED WITH ANARCHY. The date is uncertain. That it was early in the reign of Ahaz is a dubious inference from Isaiah 3:12. The pillars of society will be removed, and control will thus be thrown into the hands of young, inexperienced upstarts. Social distinctions will be swept away, age and rank no longer secure respect.
