Therefore, behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you, and I will forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and cast you out of my presence: I WILL UTTERLY FORGET YOU - just retribution for their forgetting Him (Hosea 4:6). But God cannot possibly forget His children (Isaiah 49:15). Rather, by a different pointing of the Hebrew [ wªnaashiytiy (H5382) ... naaso' for naashiytiy (H5383) ... nªsho'], for "forget," translate, 'I will altogether lift you up (like a "burden," alluding to their mocking term for God's messages) and cast you off.' Ye are a _burden_ to me: but I will take you up, and then cast you off. I will do with you as a man weary with his burden will do; cast it off his shoulders, and bear it no more....

Translate, “Therefore, behold, I will even take you up (or will burden you), and I will cast you, and the city which I gave you and your fathers, out of my presence.”...

EXPOSITION The first eight verses form the necessary conclusion of the group of discourses summarized in Jeremiah 21:1; Jeremiah 22:1. Like Isaiah, our prophet follows up denunciation with consolation, and will have the mind rest on the sure promises of God for the Messianic future. A part of the people has been already scattered abroad.
