The great and less Bear are called by the Arabs 'Daughters of the Bier,' the quadrangle being the bier, the three others the mourners....

Verse Job 38:32. _MAZZAROTH IN HIS SEASON?_] This is generally understood to mean the _signs of the zodiac_. מזרות Mazzaroth, according to Parkhurst, comes from מזר _mazar_, to _corrupt_; and he supposes it to mean that _pestilential_ wind in Arabia, called _simoom_, the _season_ of which is the _summer heats_....

It occurs nowhere else in the Scriptures, and of course it is not easy to determine its signification. The Septuagint retains the word μαξσυρὠθ _maxsurōth_, without attempting to translate it. Jerome renders it, “_Luciferum_ - Lucifer,” the morning-star. The Chaldee, מזליא שטרי - the constellations of the planets. Coverdale, “the morning-star;” and so Luther renders it. THE WONDERS OF THE INANIMATE CREATION. Where was Job when the earth was made? The work of creation is described as the building of a house. In Job 38:7 the stars, which are older than the world (contrast Genesis 1:16), are thought of as animated beings: the sons of God are the angels. The morning stars and the angels then composed the choir at the laying of earth's foundation-stone; the stone-laying, therefore, took place in the morning.
