8-14 Blessed are those who have not seen, and yet, as Manoah, have believed. Good men are more careful and desirous to know the duty to be done by them, than to know the events concerning them: duty is ours, events are God's. God will guide those by his counsel, who desire to know their duty, and apply to him to teach them. Pious parents, especially, will beg Divine assistance. The angel repeats the directions he had before given. There is need of much care for the right ordering both of ourselves and our children, that we may be duly separate from the world, and living sacrifices to the Lord....

Verse Judges 13:9. _THE ANGEL OF GOD CAME AGAIN_] This second appearance of the angel was probably essential to the peace of Manoah, who might have been jealous of his wife had he not had this proof that the thing was of the Lord....

EXPOSITION JUDGES 13:1 DID EVIL AGAIN. It by no means follows from this phrase that this chapter is in direct chronological sequence to the preceding The scene is shifted to the tribe of Dan, and to the Philistines on the west, and there is nothing to guide us as to the exact time when the things narrated occurred. _unto the woman_ In response to Manoah's prayer the divine Messenger comes not to him, but to his wife; the important thing is not -what we shall do unto the child," but what the mother shall do to ensure the consecration of her offspring. Hence no reply is given in Judges 13:14 to the latter part of Manoah's request. _in the field_ at some little distance from home.
