_AND IF HE BE POOR, AND CANNOT GET SO MUCH; THEN HE SHALL TAKE ONE LAMB FOR A TRESPASS OFFERING TO BE WAVED, TO MAKE AN ATONEMENT FOR HIM, AND ONE TENTH DEAL OF FINE FLOUR MINGLED WITH OIL FOR A MEAT OFFERING, AND A LOG OF OIL;_ If he be poor - a kind and considerate provision for an extension of the privilege to lepers of the poorer class. The blood of their smaller offering was to be applied in the same process of purification, and they were as publicly and completely cleansed as those who brought a costlier offering (Acts 10:34)....

10-32 The cleansed leper was to be presented to the Lord, with his offerings. When God has restored us to enjoy public worship again, after sickness, distance, or otherwise, we should testify our thanksgiving by our diligent use of the liberty. And both we and our offerings must be presented before the Lord, by the Priest that made us clean, even our Lord Jesus. Beside the usual rites of the trespass-offering, some of the blood, and some of the oil, was to be put upon him that was to be cleansed. Wherever the blood of Christ is applied for justification, the oil of the Spirit is applied for sanctification; these two cannot be separated. We have here the gracious provision the law made for poor lepers. The poor are as welcome to God's altar as the rich. But though a meaner sacrifice was accepted from the poor, yet the same ceremony was used for the rich; their souls are as precious, and...

Verse Leviticus 14:21. _AND IF HE_ BE _POOR - HE SHALL TAKE ONE LAMB_] There could be no cleansing without a sacrifice. On this ground the apostle has properly observed that _all things under the law are_ _purged with blood_; and that _without shedding of blood there is_ _no remission_. Even if the person be poor, he must provide _one_ _lamb_; this could not be dispensed with: - so every soul to whom the word of Divine revelation comes, must bring that Lamb of God which takes away the sin of the world. There is no redemption but in his blood....

EXPOSITION THE FORM OF PURIFICATION OF THE LEPER (Leviticus 14:1). This is the most minute of all the forms of purification, those for purification from contact with a dead body (Numbers 19:1) and for the cleansing of a defiled Nazarite (Numbers 6:1) being alone to be compared with it in this respect. Some purifications were accomplished, as we have seen, in a very summary manner: one who touched the carcass of a beast that had died a natural death had only to wash his clothes (Leviticus 11:40). 4. THE CLEANSING OF THE LEPER CHAPTER 14 _ 1. The cleansing of the leper (Leviticus 14:1)_ 2. Leprosy in the house and its purification (Leviticus 14:33) The cleansing and restoration of the leper is full of significance, foreshadowing once more the blessed work of our Saviour. Two parts in this ceremonial are to be noticed first of all. The first thing done was to restore the leper among the people from whom he had been put away. The second part of the ceremony restored him fully to communion with God. The first part was accomplished on the first day; the second part on the eighth day. A careful distinction must be made between the healing and the cleansing. All the ceremonies could not heal the leper. Jehovah alone could heal that loathsome disease. But after the

The poor man's offerings. The Sin-Offering and Burnt-Offering are modified; birds may be brought as in Leviticus 1:14; Leviticus 5:7, and the amount of the Meal-Offering is reduced, but the Guilt-Offering remains the same; a further indication that this sacrifice is the most important feature of the rite....

IF HE BE POOR, AND CANNOT GET, &C.— The humanity of the Mosaic law is always discernible; provision is constantly made for the poor. Pelicanus observes well upon this place, that though there was an exchange made of two lambs for two turtle-doves, or two pigeons, in consideration of a man's poverty, yet no person whatsoever, whether rich or poor, could be cleansed without the sacrifice of _one lamb;_ which may well be looked upon as a figure of _the Lamb of God,_ who alone taketh away the sins of the whole world. _Note;_ God ever testifies an especial care for the poor, and provides, that however destitute they may be of things temporal, they shall not want the spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus....
