Psalms 103:7

The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed. -From praising God's favour our in perpetually renewing the vigour of David's line, when seemingly on the point of extinction, the Psalmist passes to His benefits to Israel literal and spiritual, whose interests are inseparably bound up with the line of David culminating in Messiah. Verse 6. THE LORD EXECUTETH RIGHTEOUSNESS ... FOR ALL THAT ARE OPPRESSED - i:e., for all His oppressed people (cf. ; , "A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows;" namely, the orphaned and husbandless Israel and the Church, when their Lord seems removed in the day of trouble). Verse 7. HE MADE KNOWN HIS WAYS UNTO MOSES - in actual deeds of guidance and deliverance, not in mere words....

7_He hath made known his ways to Moses _David now speaks in the name of the chosen people; and this he does very suitably, being led to it by the consideration of the benefits which God had bestowed upon himself. Convinced that it was only as a member of the Church that he had been enriched with so many blessings, he immediately carries back his contemplations to the common covenant made with the people of Israel. He, however, continues the same train of thought as in the preceding verse; for these _ways, _which he says had been shown to Moses, were nothing else than the deliverance wrought for the people until they entered the promised land. He selected this as an instance of God’s righteousness and judgment, surpassing all others, to prove that God always shows himself righteous in succoring those who are oppressed. Verse Psalms 103:7. _HE MADE KNOWN HIS WAYS UNTO MOSES_] From the earliest part of our history he has been our protector and defence. His wonderful _acts_ in behalf of the _children of Israel_ are so many _proofs_ of his _mercy_, power, and goodness; and so many _reasons_ why _we_ should now trust in him....

HE MADE KNOWN HIS WAYS UNTO MOSES - This is another ground of praise - that God had “revealed his will;” that this had been done in an indubitable manner to Moses; and that these revelations had been recorded by him for the instruction and guidance of his people. The word “ways” here means his laws; his methods of administration; the principles on which he governs mankind, and the conditions on which he will save people. There is no higher ground of gratitude to God than the fact that he has given a revelation to mankind. HIS ACTS UNTO THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL - His methods of doing things have been made known to them; and his acts - his interpositions - have been in their favor....

HE MADE KNOWN HIS WAYS UNTO MOSES,.... The ways in which he himself walks, the steps and methods which he has taken to show forth his glory; his way in creation, and the order of it, as in Genesis 1:1, for though, by the light of nature, it might be known that God created all things; yet, without a revelation from him, it could never have been known in what manner he made them, and the peculiar work of each of the six days, in which they were made; this was made known to Moses; as also his way in providence, which sometimes is in the deep, and past finding out: Moses was made acquainted with the methods of divine Providence, with many special instances of it, relating both to himself in his infancy and in riper years, and to the people of Israel in their march from Egypt to Canaan's land; and the Lord likewise made known unto him his way of grace and mercy, life and salvation, by Christ,...

Let us read, dear friends, the one hundred and third Psalm, not because we do not know it, but because I trust that we know it by heart, and feel that it is a fit expression for our heart's thankfulness on this last Sabbath evening of another year. Psalms 103:1. _Bless the LORD, O my soul:_ He has been blessing thee; now begin thou to bless him. If, during the week, thou hast been busy about the things of the world now leave these unimportant matters, and come to the grandest exercise in which an intelligent spirit can be engaged. «Bless the Lord, O my soul.» Let there be no sleeping now, no coldness, no indifference; let it be real soul-work. CIII. A HYMN OF THANKSGIVING FOR YAHWEH'S PARDONING LOVE. The main theme is stated in Psalms 103:6. Yahweh is just, He rights the oppressed, but above all He is considerate and ready to pardon sin. He acts like a father to His children. PSALMS 103:1. The poet speaks from his own experience. He calls on his own soul to bless Yahweh. Here the singular is used: not so in Psalms 103:6 (see above).
