Verse Psalms 150:2. _FOR HIS MIGHTY ACTS_] Whether manifested in creation, government, mercy or justice. _HIS EXCELLENT GREATNESS._] כרב גדלו _kerob gudlo_, according to the multitude of his magnitude, or of his majesty. PRAISE HIM FOR HIS MIGHTY ACTS - See the notes at Psalms 145:4 : “One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.” The Hebrew word is the same. The reference is to that which displays the power of God; the things which manifest his omnipotence. PRAISE HIM ACCORDING TO HIS EXCELLENT GREATNESS - Hebrew, the multitude of his greatness. Let the praise in elevation correspond with this; let it be such as shall properly express this; let all be employed that will contribute to make this known, or that will be appropriate to this. Hence, the psalmist proceeds to call on all to make use of everything, by instrument and voice, that would in any manner set forth the praise of God....

EXPOSITION COMMENTATORS generally are agreed that this is a most noble psalm, a fit conclusion to the noble collection which here terminates. Professor Cheyne says, "Psalms 150:1 closes this Hallelujah group not less worthily than the whole group concludes the Psalter. It is the finale of the spiritual concert." Hengstenberg observes, "We have here a full-toned call to the praise of God, quite appropriate to the close of this psalm-cycle and of the whole Psalter." The "Four Friends" say, "With these grand words the Psalter closes." Dr. Mason Good points out, as the speciality of the psalm, that it sets before us in detail the various elements of the temple music. Psalms 150:1. _Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary:_ Notice how, in this last Psalm, it is praise, praise, praise, all the way through. I think we have the word «praise» some thirteen times in the six verses. It is all «praise him, praise him, praise him.» It is not enough to do it once, or twice, we should keep on praising the Lord till we should make the very heavens ring with the music of his praises. «Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary:» that is, in his holy place where he dwells. Begin, ye angels, cherubim, and seraphim, pour forth his praise. Psalms 150:1. _Praise him in the firmament of his power._ Let every star shine forth his praises, and sun and moon cease not to extol him: «Praise him in the firmament of his power.»...

PSALM 144-150 THE HALLELUJAH CHORUS The five Psalms with which this marvellous book closeth are all Psalms of praise. The word “praise” is found in the Hebrew thirty-seven times. Each one of these Psalms begins and ends with a hallelujah; there are ten hallelujahs. First is a hallelujah which celebrates Himself, He who is the God of Jacob. Precious vision of Him who delights to call Himself “the God of Jacob,” the God who loves the sinner and has redeemed His people. Who is He? The Creator of all, by whom and for whom all things were made (Psalms 146:6). CL. Each book ends with a doxology. Here we have a much longer doxology, which closes Book V and the whole Psalter also. The praise of God begins from His sanctuary, _i.e._ probably from His sanctuary in heaven, not from the Temple on Zion. (_See also Supplement_)...
