Psalms 92:15

To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him. TO SHOW THAT THE LORD IS UPRIGHT: (HE IS) MY ROCK, AND (THERE IS) NO UNRIGHTEOUSNESS IN HIM - akin to . "My rock" expresses God's stedfast faithfulness to His word. It in the second clause answers to "Yahweh" in the first, which name expresses unchanging faithfulness to His promises (cf. ). God's uprightness, or straightforward, right dealing with His people, remains unchanged, even though for a time His people may seem to be forsaken....

15._That they may show that Jehovah is upright. _It is evident from this verse that the great object of the Psalmist is, to allay that disquietude of mind which we are apt to feel under the disorder which reigns apparently in the affairs of this world; and to make us cherish the expectation, (under all that may seem severe and trying in our lot, and though the wicked are in wealth and power, flourish, and abound in places and distinctions,) that God will bring light and order eventually out of confusion_. 7-15 God sometimes grants prosperity to wicked men in displeasure; yet they flourish but for a moment. Let us seek for ourselves the salvation and grace of the gospel, that being daily anointed by the Holy Spirit, we may behold and share the Redeemer's glory. It is from his grace, by his word and Spirit, that believers receive all the virtue that keeps them alive, and makes them fruitful. Other trees, when old, leave off bearing, but in God's trees the strength of grace does not fail with the strength of nature. The last days of the saints are sometimes their best days, and their last work their best work: perseverance is sure evidence of sincerity. And may every sabbath, while it shows forth the Divine faithfulness, find our souls resting more and more upon the Lord our righteousness...

TO SHEW THAT THE LORD IS UPRIGHT - That is, This will be a proof that God is faithful to his promises; that he is the true friend of his people. The fact that they live long - that they are happy and useful even in old age, will be a demonstration that God is the friend of virtue, and that he deals with people according to their character. HE IS MY ROCK - He is my defense; that which constitutes my security. See the notes at Psalms 18:2. This is language of strong confidence in view of all that is said in the psalm. AND THERE IS NO UNRIGHTEOUSNESS IN HIM - This is said in the most absolute form - implying the most entire confidence. God is altogether to be trusted. There is no evil or wrong in his character or in his dealings. In all respects he is worthy of confidence: “worthy”

EXPOSITION THIS psalm is entitled, "a Psalm or Song for the sabbath day," and was therefore, we may conclude, intended for liturgical use in the temple on that weekly festival. Jewish tradition says that it was sung in the morning at the time of the drink offering of the first lamb. It was also, we are told, recited on the second day of the Feast of Tabernacles ('Middoth,' Psalms 2:5). The psalm is altogether one of praise and thanksgiving. It is optimistic, looking forward to the complete destruction of all God's enemies (Psalms 92:7), and the complete triumph and happiness of his faithful ones (Psalms 92:10).
